Capturing Moments
Theatre photography aims to capture the iconic moment of a play or musical, along with the actor's perfect emotional reaction, in a technically perfect, beautiful shot. Just a dozen or so final images need to reveal the heart of the story while also highlighting the crafts: acting, choreography, stage design, lighting design, hair & makeup.
The shoots usually happen during the final dress rehearsal, with just one chance to capture the moment, live as it happens. Emotions flicker past in a millisecond, lighting changes continuously, and the shooting conditions are rarely ideal. And all too often, the photos are required the next day.
It is these challenges — coupled with the magic of theatre — that fuel Jason’s passion.
From nationally acclaimed stages, touring productions, to intimate performances, he remains continually inspired by the artistry and dedication of the casts and crews that bring each story to life.
And while Jason works daily on Broadway (his California office situated on N. Broadway, that is), his goal is to shoot a few shows with the teams on the Broadway.
Jason is simply the best photographer shooting theatre in Southern California…full stop…period…end of story. His work is stunning. He has an uncanny way of knowing how to be in the right place at the right time. He is also extremely professional, extraordinarily easy to work with, and I could not recommend him more highly.

Jason brings stage productions into vivid life with his outstanding photographs. His archival video capture of my most recent show could have be shown as a feature. So impressive. Such beautiful work.
